Today, the entire Nigerian Legion family and veterans community across the Federation rise in unison to celebrate an icon, a pathfinder, and an unshakable pillar of service, Ms Grace Morenike Henry, on the occasion of her 61st birthday.
Born on October 5, 1964, Ms Henry has lived a life marked by courage, purpose, and selfless devotion to both country and community. As the current National Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, and the first woman and non-commissioned officer to hold the office, she has broken barriers and redefined leadership in one of Nigeria’s most revered institutions of retired military service.
This year’s celebration is particularly symbolic, as it coincides with her 100th Day in Office, following her historic assumption of office on June 30, 2025. In less than 100 days, Chairman Henry has already set the tone for a bold and transformative era through her 5-point Action Agenda tagged “Legion Rebirth”; a visionary blueprint to revamp the welfare, dignity, and legacy of Nigeria’s ex-service men and women.
Her plans are not just ambitious, they are humane and urgent. From pioneering Nigeria’s first-ever Veterans Estate Project in Abuja, set to be replicated in all 36 states, to advocating fiercely for widows, orphans, aged veterans, and the most vulnerable among the ex-service population, Ms Henry’s mission is clear: No veteran should be left behind.
Her leadership is anchored in quiet strength, firm resolve, and an empathy that is rare in public service. She is known to carry both protocol and compassion in equal measure, embodying the spirit of a soldier and the heart of a servant. Her presence is magnetic, her convictions unshaken, and her commitment to justice and dignity for veterans is unwavering.
Under her watch, the Nigerian Legion is not just being reformed, it is being reborn. What was once seen as a ceremonial body is fast becoming a vibrant institution for advocacy, empowerment, and nation-building. She is leading this charge not with noise, but with notable impact, changing narratives and touching lives, one reform at a time.
As she marks her 61st birthday, we join millions of Nigerians and the global veterans community in wishing her continued strength, divine guidance, and enduring health. May the road ahead be lit with grace, wisdom, and even greater achievements.
Happy Birthday, Ms Grace Morenike Henry, trailblazer, reformer, and mother of modern-day veterans’ welfare.
From all of us at the Nigerian Legion and the veterans community: Thank you for leading with purpose. Thank you for serving with heart.
You are not just Rewriting History, you are building the future
